As we come around the corner to the end of the semester, I’ll be uploading a few blog posts and updates today (as well as adding some more content to my portfolio page after I finish my paper for class tomorrow).
Time to finish strong guys!
Alright, so the last time you heard from me about my Professional Practice class was over Spring Break. I know, it was like a whole month and a half or so ago. I’m sorry I haven’t updated you much about it, but you can hear all about it now!
Moving forward with my interviews and such, I had contacted some design studios that I was really interested out in California & Seattle, but sadly, they fell through like a week before our deadline for these interviews. But… I went and contacted some more people and was able to get one more interview before our due date tomorrow. So, two is better than one, right? (I’d sure say so. I mean, that’s what I’m workin’ with so I can’t do anything else about it).
I had my first interview with Travis from Barkley Blacktop Creative, after we had the pleasure of touring the space last month (it was a really cool design agency with great work, company culture, and work environment by the way, check it out if you ever get a chance!). By some amazing grace of the gods above, combined with my portfolio and stunning personality (haha modest right?), I landed the internship for the summer! WHOOOOOOOOOO! Yeah, I got pretty excited, considering my last internship was a little less experience and education than I was hoping to gain.
My second interview that I was able to secure was with Ian from the super awesome Biklops (check out their site, you won’t regret it) and it was a totally rad chat. Ian gave some great feedback on things that I could do to improve my portfolio as well as some cool resources to check out for my design work. And then we spent like an hour discussing Marvel movies and nerdy things, which is ideally how every interview should go. It would be really cool if I got the internship with Biklops too though, I was checking out their work and really liked everything that I saw (AND they do web development, which has been on my list of things I wanted to refresh and expand my knowledge of for a while now!)
Alright, so, enough about those interviews.
Here’s some images of my work that I’ve been working on. Since the last time you saw my personal branding, I’ve decided to change A LOT.
- Typography Choice (it just wasn’t working for me quite yet)
- Scale Relations (lack of hierarchy)
- Tagline (or lack thereof)
- Business Card layout (mild orientation issues)
- Résumé (yeah, that needed some changes for sure)
- more crap.
Basically, everything got a face lift. And I developed/redesigned my print portfolio as well (a much needed update).
And, the best part, is that I’m finally happy with everything. For now. Haha. I may change it again in the future, who knows? I’m constantly growing as a designer and person, so why can’t my logo? At the same time though, it would probably just be a variation/improvement on what I have as opposed to a whole re-branding like I did this past semester.
