I’ve been slaving away at my computer figuring out how I’m gonna handle this website redesign. While at first my wireframes and sketches may have been confusing and not that appealing… that’s how my sketches tend to look initially. But bare with me! Things always look different once I start getting past the halfway mark.
I’ll probably forever be cursed with ugly sketches. Haha. But here are my first color explorations based on one main grid system. As usual, feel free to click on the pics for more details.
I was starting to add content and figure out the color schemes,
type combinations, and icon systems that I was intending on using for the site.
Now that I’ve got a general idea of color, I’m further exploring the
handling of the images for each button/link in relation to the graphics.
Messing around some more with angles and typefaces.
We’re getting warmer here! Literally and figuratively. I’m starting to
prefer this design best. The typeface is basically settled, aside from some
minor type combo & size explorations. I’ve tried making the colors more
along the lines of pastel because they were too strong on the eyes before.
Based on a suggestion from my instructor, Tom, I made the
text black against the colored blocks. Here, I’ve also experimented with
reflecting the angle of the colored section block.
Here I’ve begun thinking more about how I’m going to have the icons on the left
interact with the page layout. I’m thinking sliding tray from Left to Right, hence
the black indicator. I could also use this as navigational hints in my further page designs.
While the last two designs feature the section header on the bottom, after further discussion
with my friend and fellow designer, Eric McLaughlin, I tried moving it to the top.
And contrary to suggestions from people, I wanted to mess around with the vivid colors
just a little bit more, muting them in a sense while maintaining their contrasting tones.
Also featured in this iteration, if you look at the Food category, there’s a description
shown beneath the category title. This is to show a potential hover feature.
I’ll post my newer final drafts today as well. Hold on tight! More things and changes are still coming.
Thanks for reading~
